“ We visited Okinawa Yaki on our first night in Osaka. We arrived at 10:08 — technically past last orders, but the staff were kind and accommodating and seated us anyway after we said we’d eat quickly. The food was solid though not extraordinary: we tried the house specialty (a hearty mix of every type of meat topped with an egg) and an omelette. Both were tasty and well-prepared, if a bit standard. Good for a satisfying, no-frills meal. Recommend for a casual bite, especially if you need a friendly place late at night. ”

“ Chibo Okonomiyaki Dotonbori is a well-known okonomiyaki restaurant. Founded in 1973, Chibo is one of the most recognizable names associated with Osaka-style okonomiyaki and operates multiple branches in Japan and abroad. The Dotonbori location is large and centrally situated, designed to accommodate a constant flow of guests, while maintaining a clean, orderly setting centered around teppan grills. During my visit, I ordered a classic Osaka-style okonomiyaki and a side of yaki-gyoza. The okonomiyaki was prepared in the traditional Osaka style, with all ingredients mixed into the batter rather than layered. It was evenly cooked, well structured, and finished with the standard toppings: okonomiyaki sauce, mayonnaise, aonori, and katsuobushi. The balance between the soft interior and lightly crisp exterior was correct, and the flavors were clean and well integrated, without heaviness. The yaki-gyoza were properly pan-fried, crisp on one side and tender on the other, served simply with sauce and green onions. They were solid and well executed, complementing the main dish without overshadowing it. Overall, the meal was very good and technically sound. However, in the context of Osaka — a city with an exceptionally high level of okonomiyaki culture — this was not the best version I have had locally. Chibo delivers consistency, reliability, and a clear reference point for classic Osaka-style okonomiyaki, but more distinctive and flavorful interpretations can be found elsewhere in the city. ”

“ Impressive 6 story building entirely dedicated to the headquarters of a restaurant chain specialized in okonomiyaki. We were warmly received at ground level and led to the elevator where the host pressed the button to the third floor. We were seated by the teppan, where the staff cooks several okonomiyaki, yakisoba and more at a time. We ordered the Dotonbori okonomiyaki (most popular), with pork belly, squid, shrimp, beef tendon, konjac, and cheese. It was prepared in front of us and mayonnaise was squeezed from a distance, making it really fun to watch. They also finished it with loads of katsuobushi. It was delicious! We also ordered their signature gyoza, made with a very different dough. Nice, but we would not order them again. A must-go for a great and traditional okonomiyaki in Osaka! @gigicomidinhas ”
